The squat is one of the greatest exercises used to target the lower body muscles, and whether you're an elite athlete or a newbie, this exercise allows for high amounts of loading (progressive overload which I've touched on in previous posts), which depending on the variations used, can help improve performance of pretty much any sport. The squat is one of the most compounded lower body exercises due to its working of primary joints including hips, knees, and ankles. Because of this, several muscle groups are needed to perform the movement properly.
